The Path To Robotic Process Automation

“Ignorance is bliss” is not true when it comes to Robotic process automation (RPA) implementation. As part of our efforts in building an RPA Center of Excellence (CoE) for enterprises, we often see that there is very little due diligence done before they take the plunge on robotic process automation.

For instance, on several occasions, we see that the different types of licenses and the number of licenses purchased exceed the actual need. Clients are unaware of how to use licenses effectively and the originally procured ones continue to be renewed without being used.

Similarly, there is shortsightedness when it comes to identifying business processes for automation. Processes that are considered repetitive and mundane alone are considered as candidates for robotic process automation without looking at other aspects such as if the user dislikes the task, whether it is time-consuming, prone to human error, etc.

While Gartner estimates RPA software spending to total $2.4 billion in 2022, it also warns leaders that to make an RPA project a success, they must first evaluate the possible use cases for RPA in their organization and also focus on revenue-generating activities. “Do not just focus on RPA to reduce labour costs,” says Gartner.
