Managing $4.5 billion in funds, each grant cycle required more than just numbers: it demanded systematic, accurate, and timely financial reporting. Without a centralized, streamlined reporting system, this became increasingly difficult.
Financial data came from diverse, siloed sources with no unified platform to analyze budgets across cycles. Manual Operational Expenditure (OpEx) reporting took 4-5 days monthly and involved labor-intensive extraction, consolidation, and validation prone to errors. This reduced visibility into fund allocation and spending.
The consequences were significant: delayed grant approvals, less transparency for donors and stakeholders, and slow resource reallocation amid changing program needs. This risked undermining the global mission’s overall impact.
The urgency was unmistakable: optimizing fund deployment and ensuring accountability required a more automated, integrated approach to financial data management and reporting.
Developed a Budget Analysis Tool to simplify data uploads and grant selection
We empowered the finance team with a seamless way to upload data using a Streamlit web app hosted on Azure. They could subsequently access analytics dashboards, created in Tableau, within minutes. A scalable, enterprise-integrated SQL model was also built to store historical and current data, for future analysis and insights. This meant teams could quickly compare budgets across funding cycles and gain clearer visibility into where investments were going and how various funds were performing.
Automated the OpEx reporting pipeline to accelerate reporting by over 95%
To overcome the integration complexity of tracking operational expenses, we brought together data from more than 30 heterogeneous sources and consolidated it in a robust SQL foundation. We then used Azure Data Factory to process massive data volumes of 10 to 50+ GB each month. By doing this, we replaced slow, manual tasks with a streamlined workflow that validates, consolidates, and delivers reports accurately and efficiently: thereby drastically reducing time and operational effort.
Centralized data with drill-down dashboards and historical archiving
We centralized all financial data in centralized, interactive Tableau dashboards, making it easy for regional and functional teams to drill down for detailed views or quickly access historical records. The dashboards handle 50-100+ KPIs, providing users with advanced drill-down capabilities and streamlining complex reporting for more efficient decision-making.
