Their prior authorization platform supports health plans and pharmacy benefit providers, serving over 1 million lives by automating authorization requests, managing clinical documentation, ensuring compliance with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) regulations, and reducing turnaround times for patient care decisions. 

Business Challenge  

Outdated PA and Document Systems Hindered Decision Making and Clinical Efficiency 

As prior authorization (PA) requests multiplied and medical documentation demands grew increasingly complex, the client’s legacy systems could no longer keep pace: 

  • Cumbersome Workflows: A complex, fragmented user interface slowed down PA request processing and created a frustrating experience for providers. 
  • Document Bottlenecks: The DMS lagged in handling growing medical notes, creating retrieval delays and raising audit risks.

As part of this transformation, we implemented an AI-enabled rules engine that automated decision pathways for prior authorization requests, reducing manual intervention and improving processing efficiency. Alongside this, workflows were unified into a cohesive interface, performance was optimized for high-volume requests, and automated role-based access controls were introduced to ensure secure document handling.

The legacy platform’s fragmented interface made it difficult for users to complete prior authorization requests efficiently. We addressed this by redesigning the UI/UX with a modern, responsive layout. Navigation paths were simplified, redundant steps were removed, and workflows were reorganized into a logical sequence, making it easier for providers to complete tasks with fewer clicks and less training overhead. 

Improved System Performance for Faster Processing 

The legacy platform experienced performance bottlenecks that affected responsiveness during high-volume prior authorization and claims transactions. We addressed this by modernizing the backend with .NET Core services and restructuring the application architecture to handle larger transaction loads more efficiently. 

Automated Access Control for Secure Document Handling 

We implemented automated, role-based access controls along with intelligent indexing of sensitive records. This dual approach improved document traceability and reduced compliance risks. The result was greater audit readiness and security posture, meeting HIPAA and CMS mandates with confidence. By embedding compliance into the system architecture, we helped transform regulatory requirements into a competitive advantage. 

Went beyond application improvements and optimized Infrastructure with Serverless Design 

We migrated the application to a serverless architecture that automatically scaled with demand. This approach eliminated dependency on fixed infrastructure and reduced the need for ongoing maintenance of idle servers.
